The vintage flavored cannabis strain Master Kush is an indica that’s been popular in Dutch Coffee shops since the mid-90s. It’s known for its sweetly pungent earthy scent and taste that has woody undertones. When harvest-ready, its buds are covered in a thick layer of frosty trichomes and hairs of stunning shades: oranges, reds, and yellows.
Both parents are landrace strains from the Hindu Kush region: Hindu Kush and Skunk. Master Kush is a unique tetraploid strain, meaning it carries four times the number of haploid chromosomes than diploid cannabis strains (diploid is the norm).
Its THC level averages at 16% and can get as high as 20%. Its high has been popularized and is one of Snoop Dogg’s favorites. It’s described as strong but not overwhelming, creating both a blissful mindset that increases creativity and intellectual curiosity as well as a full-body relaxation numbing aches and pains. Reviewers have noted that despite its indica properties, it can sharpen sensory awareness and make hobbies (and for experienced consumers, social engagements) more enjoyable.
For novice consumers, this strain may cause dizziness or slight paranoia if too much is consumed.
Master Kush won first prize in the hydro segment of the 1994 Cannabis Cup. When it was first bred, it was called High Rise because it was created on one of Amsterdam’s towering residential blocks.
About Master Kush Pre 98 Hybrid Strain
Travel up the Pre 98 lineage and you don’t get far before it becomes Pakistani or Afghani landrace with people disagreeing on exactly where the strain started. Pre 98 Master Kush is an expansion of the family tree in the form of a hybrid with strong indica tendencies like deep, full body relaxation inducing a need to lie down according to those who have tried it.
Pre 98 Master Kush can stimulate as well, clearing the mind and opening the channels to creativity and introspection as reviewers have shared.
When you first examine the buds, they don’t stand out as particularly unique except perhaps the broad, bright green indica leaves wrapping around the flower. Sprouts of orange pistils emerge amidst the green foliage with a light trichome dusting.
Rounding out this treat for the senses is the complex Pre 98 Master Kush aroma of pepper and citrus combined with earthy and herbal notes. Citrus and pepper come through first on the inhale with a smooth exhale providing more earthy and herbal tones.
